About
Many Hands Merced
Hlub Hmong Center’s Many Hands Campaign is a community campaign that is uplifting and empowering the Hmong community in Merced to be proud of who they are and to be proud to call Merced home. We recognize the importance of preserving our Hmong heritage, language, and culture as we build stronger partnerships with and between Hmong and non-Hmong communities. These partnerships will help promote diversity and understanding while creating better opportunities for our Hmong community for a brighter future.
Traditionally, storytelling dates back hundreds of years in the form of Paj Ntaub (story cloths) and is an integral part of our history. Our history and stories were represented in the intricately woven story cloth tapestries passed down from generations and was our way of sharing our challenges, successes, and messages that our ancestors wanted to pass down to us. This was how the Hmong people recorded their stories and experiences.
Many Hands is collecting Merced Hmong stories and experiences (in keeping with the Hmong story cloth approach) and is sharing them with our Merced County to bring about curiosity, and understanding and showcase our rich history and cultural contributions to Merced. These stories will help to inspire others to do the same and will foster pride and a sense of belonging among our Hmong and mainstream communities.
Many Hands is also helping the mainstream community in Merced understand that our diversity is what makes us greater and stronger. We firmly believe and want everyone to see that Merced is a better place because of the contributions and presence of the Hmong people, and we work to ensure that this message is spread throughout the city.
We believe that building a strong and loving Hmong and non-Hmong community in Merced is crucial to creating a brighter future for all of us. We work tirelessly to promote unity, mutual respect, and inclusivity, and we welcome anyone who shares our vision to join us in our efforts.
